„Vytautas“

The authors of the sculpture: Jevgenyj Pticyn, Jelena Lialina and Vladimir Almanov from Russia.

Vytautas the Great was one of the most famous rulers of medieval Lithuania. With the title the Great, the equivalent of king, he was the supreme ruler of his dominions. He commanded the forces of the united army of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland in the Battle of Žalgiris (1410) and broke the power of the Teutonic Knights.

Vytautas‘ Lithuania was of a great importance of that time and after in Europe, that is why the sculpture symbolises freedom and victory.

For the first time the wood carvers were creating such a huge sculpture. The sculptors rejoised to see wooden crosses, The Pensive Christs and many more carvings and that witness the great love to wood of Lithuanian nation.

With so many enduring wood-craft works – sculptures – our young generation is motivated to cherish their nations history and nurture traditions and culture.
